Pick 4 is a quick, easy, fun draw game, popular across the US. It's playable in many states, with small changes in names and rules from state to state.
Pick 4 is popular because there are so many options when playing, due to the different bet amounts and play styles. That also means though, that you might want to look a few details up online before you make your play! If that's you, you're in the right place. Keep reading for our Pick 4 guide.
First thing's first, you need to select your numbers and enter them on an official Playslip. This can be any number ranging from 0000 to 9999. If you'd rather not choose them yourself, you can mark the Quick Pick box on your playslip, and the lottery terminal will select a set of random numbers for you.
Next up, decide what type of bet you want to play. This can be an Exact Order Play, a 50/50 Play, an Any Order Play, or a Combo Play. What do they all mean? We provide a detailed description of each on our Ways to Play page
You can bet either $1 or $0.50 on your plays. None of the odds or game rules change with the bet amount - the only difference is that the $1 prizes are twice as big!
The Fireball is a fifth ball, drawn after the main four. If you pay for this add-on, you can use the Fireball number to replace any of the main numbers, giving you an extra chance at winning a prize. Prizes are a bit lower when you rely on the Fireball to win, but your overall odds are much better!
Using Multi Draw, you can enter your numbers into future drawings. Mark on your playslip whether you want to play the Day draws, Night draws, or both, and how many consecutive drawings you want to play. Using this option, you can enter up to 91 drawings at once!
If you want to buy a ticket for a single date in the future, mark the Optional Plays box on your playslip and tell the clerk which date you want to play.
If you're confident in your numbers, you can purchase up to 20 identical tickets without the need for a new playslip.
Virginia Pick 4 holds two drawings daily. The Day drawings take place at 1:59 PM ET, and sales for this drawing cut off at 1:53 PM ET. The Night drawings take place at 11:00 PM, and the sales cut-off is at 10:45 PM.
The prizes in Virginia Pick 4 are all fixed, so you can know in advance what you stand to win. The biggest prize available is the payout of $5,000 for winning a $1 Exact Order play, or any Combo play. Visit the Odds and Prizes page for more details, and the rest of the prize tiers.
